The Videonale as guest in Bonn's and Cologne's living rooms
The next edition of the "Video Nights in Bonn and Cologne Living Rooms" is coming up. People living in Bonn and Cologne responded to our call, As hosts they warmly invite for a video night into their living rooms, online or on site.
Each evening we will watch a video work from the Videonale archive, which we will then discuss in a moderated conversation. The evening is equally suitable for those interested in video art as well as the curious. We are looking forward to seeing you!
Admission is half an hour before the start. Admission is free, space is limited - registration for all evenings is required at videoabende@videonale.org. The addresses of the hosts will be announced upon registration. For questions about accessibility, please contact Anna Holms, videoabende@videonale.org.
For the digital video nights we also ask for registration at videoabende@videonale.org.
The 2G+ rule (vaccinated or recovered AND tested negative) applies for participation in the on-site video nights. The negative test must be taken on the day of the event and by a professional testing center).
About the VIDEO NIGHTS:
The video evenings are hosted by private individuals in their apartments or houses in Bonn and Cologne or online. The discussions about the videos are moderated by Annette Ziegert and encourage individual engagement with and communal exchange about the respective video work.

Still Lifes by Erik Levine
Aging embodies, represents and concretizes the course of life in all its variations. Postures and gestures, physical features, movements, and traits of older people in turn embody aging. Still Lifes deals with people living in retirement homes and assisted living facilities, merging different narratives and realities.

In Flow of Words by Eliane Esther Bots
*In Flow of Words follows the stories of three interpreters of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. They interpreted shocking testimonies of witnesses, victims and perpetrators without ever allowing their own emotions, feelings and personal stories.

Video Night in Cologne | Birds of My Weakness by Úna Quigley

Birds of My Weakness by Úna Quigley.
Birds of my weakness is the story of a woman's emancipation process in a male-dominated society. She achieves this by developing psychic powers that allow her to change gender and directly experience what is on the other side. The work is inspired by Guillaume Apollinaire's Les Mamelles de Tiresias (The Breasts of Tiresias), a surrealist drama with feminist and pacifist elements, written in 1903 and premiered in 1917.

The architect Yona Friedman became known in the 1950s with his utopian designs of a spatial city built above the existing city. Reduced to utility functions, the megastructure was intended to incorporate flexible housing units individually designed by residents*. 60 Elephants. Episodes of a Theory is a sensitive cinematic homage to Friedman's circumspect, unagitated and always topical thinking about the future of the city, which manifests itself not least in his statements on the situation of refugees.

In My Language by Mel Baggs
Mel Baggs was an American autistic and non-binary blogger who became known in the early stages of the autism rights movement. Published on YouTube, the cinematic essay In My Language gained increased media attention in 2007 and can be understood as a manifesto exposing and protesting the assumptions attached to people with autism.

Iris [A Fragment] by Imogen Stidworthy.
Iris [A Fragment] is about Swedish therapist and writer Iris Johansson. Johansson was nonverbal until she learned to speak at age 12, but as she says, "I will always be autistic" and part of her will always be nonverbal.The film is the result of Imogen Stidworthy's many years of research on speaking "at the boundaries of language" and how relationships and meaning-making are affected, perhaps even changed, by it.
