Before VIDEONALE.21 moves into the Kunstmuseum Bonn in April 2027 (opening: April 29), we’ll be launching a series of events in Bonn-Bad Godesberg starting in late October 2026.

The kick-off event will take place on Sunday, October 25, at 5:30 pm at the Trinkpavillon, the fountain of the Electoral Healing Spring, in Bad Godesberg’s Stadtpark. We’ll start with a small picnic that we’ll set up for you on the terrace in front of the pavilion. Afterwards, we’ll watch Stéphanie Lagarde’s video work Extra Life (and Decay) together.
Starting at 3:30 pm, you’re invited to join us, Stéphanie Lagarde, and Bonn-based media artist Tina van de Weyer in exploring the city park, its inhabitants, traces, and sounds from a new perspective. Children are warmly welcome!
Extra Life (and Decay), shown at the last Videonale, is the inspiration for the title and the theme of VIDEONALE.21: C’est tout une maison (It’s all a house). In conversation with Stéphanie Lagarde, artistic directors Tasja Langenbach and Annette Ziegert will explore the video’s contents and the VIDEONALE.21 guidelines inspired by it.

The artist Minne Kersten explores what we see and what we don’t see; real and fictional stories that inhabit spaces and objects. In her video “Where I’m Calling From,” which will be on view from April 30 to June 13, 2027, as part of the Videonale exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Bonn, she takes us to an attic populated by nocturnal creatures. We’ll be showing the video as a preview on November 19, 2026, 6:30 pm, at the Bad Godesberg District Library, a storage and repository for books and other media. At the same time, the library is an important social hub in the center of Bonn-Bad Godesberg. Everyone aged 12 to 100 is invited. A VIDEO EVENING with snacks and no popcorn.

Near the former Kurpark in Bad Godesberg, the HiCoG housing development—designed in the style of a garden city—was built starting in 1950 for employees of the U.S. Embassy. In the late 1990s, the development became federal property and continues to provide housing for a diverse range of residents, complete with shared green spaces. On December 1, 2026, at 6:00 pm, Videonale, in collaboration with various partners, will host a short film program for children and adults in the housing complex, with cookies and punch. The films explore the question of what makes a home. The exact location has not yet been determined and will be announced after registration.

Have you ever wished that someone with expertise would take charge of your life—at least temporarily, at least in one area? Do you secretly long for a makeover, or is the idea of someone completely transforming your style, your apartment, and your daily routine for the camera your worst nightmare?
The "Friendly Makeover Club" project takes an artistic look at the TV makeover format, the corresponding longings and unmet needs in our own lives, and possible alternatives to self-optimization. On December 9 at 7:00 p.m., you’ll get a glimpse into the collective project process of the “Friendly Makeover Club,” featuring a performance by Elsa Artmann and the preview of Ale Bachlechner’s new video work. The event will take place at the Trinkpavillon in the Kurpark Bonn-Bad Godesberg, where part of the video work was also filmed.
About the Project: The Cologne-based dance ensemble Elsa Artmann/SANFTE ARBEIT invites participants to six sessions at the Zentrenmanagement in Bonn-Bad Godesberg from September through November 2026. During these sessions, participants will collaboratively explore experiences and possibilities of mutual care through performance, text, and movement. At the same time, a new video work is being created in collaboration with video artist Ale Bachlechner. This work takes the promises of reality television seriously, appropriates scenarios of dramatic life improvements, and explores the question of what happens when the division of roles between the helper and the person in need becomes ambiguous.
