Since the 1960s the state of North-Rhine-Westphalia has been one of the most vivid places for the artistic avantgarde, especially the early video art. Very early on, important collections were founded with a special focus on the regional contemporary video art scene. They still exist today and allow an unique view into the history of early video art in Germany.
In the context of the “Telling archives”-project five of the most important institutions present their video art collections to the public: Kunstmuseum Bonn, Ludwig Forum for International Art Aachen, Museum Folkwang Essen, imai foundation Dusseldorf and Videonale Bonn.
Each collection has its own focus which will be represented in the video programs curated for “Telling Archives”. The presentations of the programs are accompanied by introductions of the curators, artist talks and lectures.
„Telling archives“ was initiated by Videonale Bonn in cooperation with Kunstmuseum Bonn, Ludwig Forum for International Art Aachen, Museum Folkwang Essen, imai foundation Dusseldorf.
